Pellets - biomass

SMART Conveyors, built with pellet mills in mind.

Unlike standard conveyors, they are designed to handle the specific challenges of transporting hot pellets, such as fragility and heat.

Key features and benefits include:

  • Gentle handling: The chain runs in a separate channel, preventing it and the paddles from riding over the pellets and causing damage.
  • Built for pellets: They are designed to withstand the heat and specific material characteristics of pellets from pellet mills, as opposed to simply being a repurposed general-use conveyor.
  • Lower operational costs: By using a specialized machine that handles the material well, the system aims to reduce maintenance and improve profitability.
  • Reduced support structure: The conveyors can be built with fewer support towers, which can lower construction costs.
  • Application-specific design: BE&E emphasizes that the conveyors are customized to the demands of the specific application, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

Unlocking Profitability: How Upgraded Material Handling Drives Pellet Mill Performance

  • Reduced product damage: In a standard drag-chain conveyor, the paddles can sometimes ride up over the pellets, grinding and damaging them. SMART Conveyors are engineered with chains that run through side channels, keeping the paddles fixed in their path to simply sweep the material forward.
  • High-incline capability: The system can move pellets at steep inclines, sometimes up to 90 degrees, which saves space in a mill where a conventional belt conveyor would need a much longer, gentler incline.
  • Modular design: The conveyors are constructed in five-foot modular sections, providing flexibility for new installations or reconfiguring existing layouts.
  • Reliability package: An optional package includes sensors to monitor the alignment of paddles, detect chain tension, and check bearing temperatures. This allows operators to address potential problems before they lead to serious damage.
  • Dust-tight construction: The enclosed, dust-tight design prevents pellet dust from escaping into the environment during transport.
  • Stainless steel options: For corrosive or high-temperature applications, such as handling hot pellets, stainless steel construction is available.
