Log Decks & Troughs
Log Decks
BE&E log decks are designed around the concept of using individual drive for each strand. They can be made with or without singulation lugs. The idea being that each lug will deliver one log or a certain volume of stems. Smooth decks simply crowd the logs by slipping the chain under them. When the chain is smooth, we return the chain within the strand tube, making a very clean and safe operation. When lugs are required, the chain will be returned outside the tube.

Log Deck Features
- Individual, modular strands, each with its own drive.
- Chains run on easily replaceable wear surface.
- Plastic tail sprocket – no bearings to lubricate and able with withstand impacts better than a bearing.
- No takeups. The chain is in a controlled catenary area with a slot in the frame to view the chain. Just look through the slot and if the chain is visible, the slack is correct. If it is not visible, remove a link.
- S Drives are also available when reversing is desired.
Why individual strands?
- Easily serviced if there is a problem. With most strands, there are 6 bolts attaching it to the structure below. If a strand is damaged somehow, just cut the bolts, unwire the motor and lift the strand out. Drop another one in and take the damaged one to the shop to rebuild it.
- Much lower overall power is required.
- All the components are smaller, cheaper and easier to work on. The head shafts are 3-7/16 only, compared to 6-8” on many large log decks. It takes a crane to change the center bearing on a common log deck. A man with hand tools can change out ours.
- The strands can be individually driven when needed. This can be useful to straighten out logs which were not loaded straight. Or, strands can be turned off when running shorter wood, saving energy.
- Easier, faster and therefore cheaper installation than decks requiring a common head shaft.
- No shaft alignment issues at installation or anytime after. It is not a problem if every strand is not perfectly aligned with the others.

Log Troughs
We start with a modular design where each section is an individual unit that bolts to the next straight section, head or tail. Each section is built on a jig and utilizes laser cut splice plates to ensure perfect fit every time, now or at a future expansion.

Log Trough Features
- Individual, modular sections that bolt together at splice plates.
- Chains run on easily replaceable wear surfaces. The upper surface is AR wear plate under the chain, in the center and at each edge. To replace it, cut the bolts from underneath with a cutting disk, pick out the old plates, and bolt new ones in with new bolts. A very simple rebuild with no welding.
- Impact sections are built with more structural members.
- Tensioning of the chains is by managed by the catenary section. With chain wear, remove links.
- Can also be built with S Drive for reversing.
