Unlocking the Power of Biochar

When it comes to biochar production, no one handles harsh material like BE&E. Every day we move a wide range of organic feedstocks, made up of agricultural waste like corn stover, nut shells, hemp and rice husks, woody biomass such as wood chips and sawdust, and various organic byproducts such as sewage sludge, manure, and food waste. Our resume is pretty extensive, and you can find our SMART Conveyors in many of the top biochar operations in North America. When it comes to new production or retrofitting an existing facility, Work SMART!

BE&E offers custom engineered solutions, designed to help you navigate the conveyance, storage, and handling of residual materials for biochar infeed material. None of our work would be possible without the knowledge, education, devotion, and passion of our team. We are biomass people, too. BE&E boasts top-notch engineers, skilled fabricators, experienced servicemen, and technical salespeople with backgrounds in engineering, managing mills and industrial projects. Our staff has first-hand experience in the biomass sector. As a result, we listen to better understand your needs. Then we engineer a solution to suit your requirements with optimal, efficient layouts.

Defining the Future. Not Just Talking About it.

SMART conveyors optimize biochar operations by improving material handling, increasing efficiency, and reducing operational costs and downtime. A key feature is the system’s ability to handle high-temperature and difficult-to-manage materials, such as pellets and woody biomass.
Operational advantages
  • Greater energy efficiency. The unique design of some SMART conveyor systems uses less energy than other conveyor types by reducing internal friction. Chains are run outside material flow, and paddle placement prevents dragging on the floor and walls.
  • Lower operational costs. Higher efficiency, along with reduced maintenance and downtime, leads to lower overall operating expenses.
  • Reduced wear and tear. The design that minimizes friction also reduces wear on the conveyor system, extending its lifespan.
  • Decreased downtime. Robust components and engineered fail-points improve reliability, leading to less unplanned downtime. Predictive maintenance from integrated sensors also helps prevent issues before they cause a shutdown.
  • Compact design. The ability to move materials at a steep incline means a single SMART conveyor can often replace multiple machines, saving space and cost.
Performance benefits
  • Enhanced material flow. Smart controls adjust the conveyor’s speed in real-time based on material flow and data from IoT sensors, preventing bottlenecks and ensuring efficient movement.
  • Improved safety. A fully enclosed design contains dust, reducing cleanup and the risk of fire. Automated systems also reduce the need for manual material handling, improving worker safety.
  • Customization for specific needs. Manufacturers can customize SMART conveyor systems for specific applications, such as handling high-temperature biochar pellets, to ensure optimal performance.

Combined Heat and Power unit

The Perfect Pairing: Combined Heat & Power Meets Biochar Production for Optimal Energy

The floyd|bioenergy ™ Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system, also known as cogeneration, is a highly efficient system that generates both electricity and useful thermal energy (like heat or steam) from a single fuel source, primarily sawmill residuals. By capturing waste heat that would typically be lost in conventional power generation, the floyd|bioenergy™ CHP significantly reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, achieving efficiencies of 50% to 70% compared to separate generation. This system provides reliable, on-site power and heat for  industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities, as well as smaller applications and microgrids.
